FAQ’s for NESM TALL SHIP CRUISE
What exactly is Sail Boston 2017?
Sail Boston is an official port of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta (more than 50 Tall Ships). It is the only U.S. hosting port on the 7,000 nautical mile trans-Atlantic race organized by Sail Training International. The vast fleet will visit six countries with a final destination in Quebec City, Canada in celebration of the federation’s National 150th anniversary.
Sail Boston 2017 is a week- long festival of events (June 17th-22nd) taking place throughout the city particularly at the many waterfront sites in the Seaport district as well as new areas in Charlestown and East Boston. The city last hosted this epic event in 2009 as millions of people enjoyed viewing and touring vessels in the incredible international fleet.
Why is New England Seafarers Mission excited about this Cruise?
As a destination city, we are thrilled to see the nurture of “hospitality” in the larger Maritime community within Boston harbor. Additionally, we are especially excited to share an authentic ‘maritime’ experience with NESM friends and partners. While it is a fundraiser, it is also just plain awesome that we were able to procure the private charter to enjoy the cruise together. We are good to go! The Tall Ships bring an influx of millions of people into the city. Think long lines and crowds. Fear not, but plan accordingly!
Where will we gather to embark on the scenic cruise?
To re-cap, the date is Sunday, June 18th 2017. We will meet at Rowes Wharf at 2:15 p.m. under the magnificent arch at The Boston Harbor Hotel on Atlantic Avenue. (LOOK FOR BLUE AND WHITE BALLOONS). Once gathered we will be escorted to board the Samuel Clemens at approx. 2:45 p.m. and shove off promptly at 3:00 p.m. We have been put on notice that the departure time is certain so please plan your travel time accordingly.
Will there be food and beverages available?
Yes. Mass Bay lines has a CASH bar for soft drinks, beer and wine as well as hot dogs and a few other light snacks. Not a feast… We didn’t opt for a catered event for the hour and a half tour. However, if you select the “Captains Special,” you could be the recipient of a delicious Lobster Roll and even a bag of chips. Once back on dry land we want people to enjoy gathering with friends, family, and, of course, FATHERS at restaurants of your own choosing.
Where shall I park?
Consider train and subway options into the city. Visit http://www.mbta.com/ There are also parking garages in the Faneuil Hall area. Visit http://en.parkopedia.com/ and enter “Rowes Wharf Boston” in the search field. Boston will be extremely busy that week.
NOTE: Security will be tight at Black Falcon Terminal. NESM will not be able to provide visitor/volunteer parking.
All kinds of events will be taking place in the city that day. There will be FREE public tours on some of the Tall Ships. The scenic Tall Ship Cruise is a terrific opportunity to invite friends who would love to view the ships and might be interested to learn what NESM is all about.
